Johnny Robert Ashley, age 81, of Belton, SC, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2022, at home with his family by his side. Born February 19, 1941, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late L.A. "Rube" Ashley and Genevia Elizabeth "Kat" Bowen Ashley. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, William, James Willis, and Henry Ashley; and sisters, Louise Lyon and Barbara Jones. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Johnny was a retired carpenter and brick mason. He was a member of the Army Reserves retiring after 25 years of service. Johnny was a farmer and enjoyed attending farm events with his best friend, Ronnie Mattison. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandson. He was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Wilma Shirley Ashley; daughter, Angie Clinkscales (John); grandchildren, Olivia Kennelly (Chris) and Grace Plowden (Davis); and great-grandson, Jonathan Kennelly. A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. Donnie Murdock officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice, 1704 E. Greenville St, Ste. 1-C, Anderson, SC 29621. The family will be at the residence.
