Johnny Fletcher White, age 93, of Anderson, SC, was called home to be with the Lord on January 16, 2024. Johnny was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Born on December 29, 1930, in Lavonia, Johnny was the son of Grover and Hattie White. He graduated from Lavonia High School in 1949, where he excelled both academically and athletically, playing football.
Johnny proudly served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Alaska. He often served guard duty in sub-zero conditions, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his country. After his military service, Johnny embarked on a successful career as a Service Technician with Sears where he worked for 36 years. Known for his exceptional skills, he was regarded as a genius in his field. He had the remarkable ability to fix anything, both at work and at home. In his spare time, Johnny enjoyed tinkering and inventing, turning ordinary objects into something spectacular.
Johnny had a passion for nature and spent countless hours gardening. He also enjoyed playing golf, camping, and cheering on the Clemson football team. His love for his family was evident in the time he spent with his grandchildren, always making them feel special and loved.
Johnny was a faithful member of Homeland Park Baptist Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith.
Johnny is survived by his beloved wife, Janiece Murray White, his children, Robin White Kinnard and husband Rick, Clay White and wife Nancy, and Reenae White, as well as his grandchildren, Joshua and wife Megan, Matthew, and Zachary Burke, Grace, and Zachary White. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Sydney, London, Eliana, and Shawn. He was preceded in death by his son, John Scott White and his parents, Grover and Hattie White. Johnny is also survived by his niece, Janice Russell and preceded in death by his siblings, Cullen, Edrew, James, Fred, Grover, Jr., Elton Sanders, Mary Beasley, Flora Andrews, Joyce Spurling, and Helen Edwards, as well as his niece, Betty Jo Phillips.
Johnny Fletcher White will be remembered as a kind-hearted and talented individual who brought joy to the lives of those around him. His legacy will live on through the memories shared by his loved ones.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. James Strickland officiating. Burial will be at Burgess Cemetery in Lavonia, GA following the service at 2:45 pm.
In memory of Johnny, contributions can be made to Hospice of the Upstate or Homeland Park Baptist Church.
