Joseph John Mancino, Jr., a man of intellect, dedication, and compassion passed away in Martinez, California, April 3, 2026. Joey is predeceased by his mother, Dr. Julia Speares Mancino and beloved friend, Robin Richards.

Born with an innate drive to achieve and serve, Joey demonstrated his commitment to leadership early in life by earning the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in the Boy Scouts of America. This foundational experience shaped his character, instilling a lifelong dedication to community and honor. Joey donated to numerous charities without recognition, helping children and families in need of food, clothing, and toys.

Joey grew up in Williamston, South Carolina, where he attended Palmetto High School. He graduated as Salutatorian and was recognized by peers and faculty alike for his academic sharpness and outstanding work ethic. He continued his academic journey at Clemson University, earning his undergraduate degree in Economics and French while passionately supporting his Tigers. Wanting to continue his education, Joey attended Louisiana State University, where he completed his advanced graduate studies earning an MBA. Throughout his life, he carried the proud traditions of the Clemson Tigers. Flying across country to see his Tigers play in not only Death Valley, but also bowls and all National Championships. He supported the university’s library through IPTAY for over 20 years. Most recently, Joey was selected to serve on the Clemson University Library Board.

Following his distinguished academic career, Joey relocated to California, where he dedicated 28 years of service to the Shell Oil Company, serving with distinction as the World Finance Manager. His brilliant financial mind, global perspective, and unwavering integrity made him a deeply respected leader throughout his long tenure in the energy industry.

Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Joey possessed a deep love for the arts. He was an avid patron of the theater and musical performances. An adventurous spirit, he also enjoyed traveling all over the world, exploring numerous countries, immersing himself in diverse cultures, and collecting unforgettable experiences across the globe. Joey found great joy and inspiration in culture, history, and creative expression throughout his life.

The quote, “Life is a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!” from his favorite 1958 film, Mame, symbolized Joey's and Mame's philosophy: seize every opportunity, live boldly, and don't let fear or convention keep you from experiencing life.

Joey will be remembered as a devoted son, loving brother, a loyal friend, and a visionary professional who looked for excellence in everything he did. He is survived by his sister, Judy Mancino (Dottie Graham). His impact on his family, friends, community, and alma maters will be felt for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clemson University Foundation, Inc., Attn: JoVanna King, P.O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29633-1889 for the Joseph John Mancino, Jr. Scholarship Endowment.
