JOSEPH LEVIS SHIRLEY, SR May 8, 1926 - January 20, 2006ANDERSON, SCMr. Joseph Levis Shirley, Sr., age 79, of 807 Camellia Drive, Anderson, SC and husband of the late Rachel Ellen Whitfield Shirley, died Friday, January 20, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.Born in La France, SC on May 8, 1926, Mr. Shirley was the son of the late George Fletcher Shirley and Leila Simpson Shirley. He was a United States Army Korean War veteran and a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of West Anderson Church of God and was the secretary of the Men's Bible Class for more than 30 years.He is survived by a son, Joby Shirley and his wife, Kay of Abbeville, SC; two granddaughters, Katy Smith and her husband Kevin and Samantha McBride and her husband, Jody and four great-grandchildren; Kaleb and Kirsty Smith and Draven Price and Kalee McBride.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fletcher and Carl Shirley and a sister, Sara Wentzky.The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at 2:30 pm at West Anderson Church of God officiated by the Reverends Mark Daniel and John Daniel. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, SC.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
