Joseph Dewey Sistare, Jr., age 88, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at Oakleaf Village Assisted Living in Greer, SC. Born in Kingsport, TN, on April 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Joseph Dewey Sistare, Sr., and the late Mazie Threat Sistare. He was a graduate of Lancaster High School and earned a BS in Chemistry from Clemson University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a chemical engineer until his retirement. Joe was heavily involved with the mission work at his church, Concord Baptist Church in Anderson, and Connie Maxwell Children's Home. He was a proud Clemson Tiger fan. He is survived by his son, Joseph Dewey "Chip" Sistare, III and his wife Karen, of Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Bill Sistare and his wife Juanita, of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren, Caroline and Cameron Sistare. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bernice Jackson Sistare, who passed away in 2017; and two sisters, Jean Sistare Waldrop and Doris Sistare Snowden. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Don Cox officiating.
