Joseph Garrett Sloan, age 83, of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born July 26, 1938, in Greenville, SC, he was a son of the late Elzie Sloan and Lucille Hughes Sloan. Joseph faithfully served his country for 21 years in the United States Navy until his retirement. Following his military career, he began a 30 year employment with PCA. He was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. He is survived by his wife, Janice Smith Sloan; daughter, Amanda Baldwin (Tim); brothers, Don Sloan, and Charles Sloan (Paula); and granddaughter, Hannah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Smith Sloan; and sisters, Betty Sloan Mayhew, and Iris Sloan Jackson. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 10, 2022, from 10:30-11:30 am at Gethsemane Baptist Temple. The funeral service will begin at 11:30 am with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. The committal service will be at 1:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
