Joseph Warren Willoughby, age 93, departed this life on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Brookdale of Central. Born in Purvis, MS on May 29, 1923, he was the son of the late James Thomas Arthur Willoughby and the late Effie Lee Gore Willoughby. Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer with 22 years of service, and also retired from Civil Service. He was a lifelong Southern Baptist and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 71 years, Virginia Mae Weber Willoughby; his daughter, Jo Elaine Smith and her husband Donald; his sons, Warren Dale Willoughby and his wife Pamela, and Thomas Lee Willoughby; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Velma Nichols and Florene Seay; his brothers, Hughey, AG, Glyn and Byron Willoughby; and a granddaughter, Kimberly. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverends Jennifer McClung-Rygg and Donald G. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
