Josephine Elena Delgado Irizarry, age 77, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at her home.

Born June 4, 1949, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francisco Delgado and Josephine Deangelo Delgado. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frankie Delgado and Thomas Delgado.

Josephine, affectionately known as “Jo-Jo” or “Yaya”, was dedicated to her family. A true matriarch, she was their foundation. She was fun, feisty, and a force of nature. She enjoyed bingo, shopping, and always looking for the best bargains. One of the ways she showed her love for her family was through cooking. She leaves behind a legacy of deep love and understanding. She was always there to talk, listen, and offer a comforting perspective. She was more than a daughter, wife, mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, cousin, and friend. She was a source of support and a guiding light who always understood without judgment. She was a truly authentic person who loved with her whole being and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Nathanael Irizarry; daughters, Deana Josephine Rivera (Ed) and Dana Lee Brown (Kenyatta); sisters, Elena Medina and Lisa Delgado; grandchildren, Athena Rivera-Bishop (Kenneth), Alexandra “Lexi” Grover (Keith), Andreanna Lane (Nathane), Aaron Rivera, Khalia Brown, Jada Brown and Ruth Ann Sanderson; great grandchildren, Ava Grover, Draven Johnson, and Eva Grover; many nieces and nephews.

The family will have a viewing on Monday, July 27, 2026, from 2:30-5:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.
