Joy Fortner Carver, age 80, affectionately called "Memaw", of Starr, SC, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at her home.

Born September 21, 1943, in Woodruff, SC, she was the daughter of the late D.R. Fortner and Effie Goodwin Cumbee. She was also preceded in death by two siblings, Doris Patterson Taylor and Landrum Fortner.

Joy was a graduate of Girls High and retired from Owens Corning Fiberglass after 28 years of faithful service to the company. Her hobbies included camping and going to yard sales. She was a faithful member of Freedom Center where she volunteered with the food bank and soup kitchen. She loved the Lord and gospel music and was an ordained minister, performing many family weddings. Joy had the biggest heart for everyone but especially for her family whom she loved dearly.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Carlton "Butch" Carver, Jr.; children, Tony Keaton (Melissa), Andy Keaton, Lynn Smith (Danny), Debbie Durham (Robert), and Denise Carver; brother, Dennis Fortner; 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 22, 2023, at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Sears and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the home.
