Joyce Sumter, wife of the late Reverend James Russell Sumter, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015, at Fellowship Health and Rehab in Anderson. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Reverend William and Lila Richey Evans. After retiring from working many years in the textile industry, she served as a caregiver. She had a big heart and took care of others. She is survived by her sons, Terry Sumter of Anderson and Danny Sumter and his wife Mary of Anderson; her daughter, Debbie Gregory and her husband Wayne of Anderson; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Evans and her sister, Helen Freeman. The graveside service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
