Obituary

Juaweice Eiland Devine, 95, passed away peacefully at Rainey Hospice House on January 21, 2018. Juaweice was born October 17, 1922, in Drew, Mississippi, the daughter of Daisy and Robert Roy Eiland. She was the eldest and last surviving of five children. In 1944, she graduated from the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. It was war time and the government was calling for people to work. Juaweice bravely answered that calling and left for Oakridge, TN, the Secret City, to work for Tennessee Eastman at the Y-12 facility, which purified uranium for the atomic bomb. It was here that she would meet the love of her life, Robert Devine, an engineer in the Army. They were married in the "Chapel on the Hill" by Fr. Tierney, February 22, 1946. Juaweice and Robert lived many places but spent most of their years in Pittsburgh, PA and Princeton Jct., NJ., finally retiring to Anderson in 1985. She was a member of St. Joseph's Church "Hilltoppers" and volunteered for AnMed Hospital for over 20 years and was as active in retirement as when raising five children. She cherished their travels and their many friendships. Her passion was people and especially children. She loved life and didn't want to miss out on anything. Her last words were of her deep love for her family and that she didn't want to leave. She and Robert were married for 65 years before his passing on March 21, 2011. She dreamed of him nightly and looked forward to their heavenly reunion. Juaweice is survived by her children, Kathleen Meyer (Al) of Boulder, CO, Nancy Devine (Julius Meisel) of Wilmington, DE, Patricia Dawson (Geoff) of Ashland, OR, Thomas Devine of Lakehurst, NJ, and James Devine (Joanne) of Hamilton, NJ. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jessica, Sarah, David, Ryan, Ashley, Ben and Elena and four great-grandchildren, Rosie, Addie, Matthew and William. Juaweice and her family are grateful for the care she experienced at Brookdale and for the loving caregivers from Home Instead. The Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am on May 5, 2018 at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church with a reception to follow.
