KATHLEEN HARBIN ROWLAND April 26, 1929 - July 27, 2012 Kathleen Harbin Rowland, age 83, of 1804 Old Williamston Road, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2012, at the St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. Born in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Lenord Harbin and the late Fanny Stasney Harbin. For fifty years, she was the devoted and beloved wife of the late Oscar H. Rowland until his death in 1999. Mrs. Rowland was a graduate of Girls High School in Anderson, and worked for many years in customer service at Gallant-Belk's downtown and later at Anderson Mall. She retired from Belk's in 1988. Kathleen loved children and taught kindergarten at the Beverly Hills Christian Academy prior to working for Gallant-Belk's. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple in Starr, where she was a devoted and active member as long as her health permitted. Left to carry on her legacy are a daughter, Deborah Shipman and her husband, Bishop Frederick D. Shipman of West Palm Beach, FL; a brother George Harbin of Iva; 2 grandchildren, Christopher Shipman and wife, Cristin, and Whitney Shipman and wife, Jennifer, all of West Palm Beach, FL; 3 great-grandchildren, Mason, Macy and Jenna Shipman of West Palm Beach. In addition to her parents and husband, Oscar, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Rowland Hinton; 3 sisters, Dora Crocker, Lillie Mae Hall, and Josephine Neal; 5 brothers, Ernest, Fred, Wade, Earl, and David Harbin. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Rowland will be held on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at 2 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence, and there will be no formal visitation hours, however friends are welcome to register at the funeral home.
