Mrs. Kathleen 'Katie' Smith, age 51, of 1300 Oak Drive, Sandy Springs, SC, died Sunday, January 15, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Ridgecrest, CA, she was daughter of the late Russell Everett and Frances Ann Aldrich Fullingim. Katie was married to Roy A. Smith, of Sandy Springs, for 27 years.Mrs. Smith was an Administrative Coordinator at Clemson University for twenty-one years, and was a member of Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, in Sandy Springs, where she sang in the church choir. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Sandy Springs Fire Department, and was an active supporter of cancer awareness activities, including Relay for Life and Bosom Buddies. Kathleen was an avid lover of animals, having adopted several dogs and cats, and did part time work at Happistance Veterinary Clinic in Townville. She was a graduate of Arlington High School in Riverside, CA.In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith is survived by two brothers, Alex Fullingim of Red Bluff, CA, and Russell 'Smokey' Fullingim, II (Tonie) of Eugene, OR; a niece, Soraya Fullingim, serving in the US Navy in Italy, and a nephew, Russell Fullingim, III of Port Orchard, WA.A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Katie Smith will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2 PM at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Lindsey Hatch officiating.
