Larry Charles Bowen, age 85, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born June 24, 1940, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Charles Lee Bowen and Inez Kay Bowen. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Connice McCullough.
Larry dedicated more than 30 years of service as a dispatcher for Roadway Express Trucking Company before retiring. A faithful member of Covenant Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and was an active member of the church security team. Larry had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing many types of guitars, with the steel guitar holding a special place in his heart. He was a talented woodworker who spent many happy hours in his home workshop creating and building. Larry also enjoyed restoring antique automobiles, particularly the cherished Ford Model A and Ford Model T. Above all, he treasured time with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and were among his greatest blessings.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Bowen; daughter, Kelly Bowen Fredericks (Mark); son, Jon Bowen (Allyson); and sister, Mary Ann Allen (Connie); grandchildren, Erica Shaw (Aaron), Courtney Burton (Brandon), Savannah Hannah (Ethan), Chandler Creswell (Josey), Garrett Bowen; and six great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, from 11:00 am to 11:45 am at The McDougald Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 12:00pm in the Chapel with Rev. Dr. Steve Silvey and Rev. Ray Massey officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
