The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, SC 29621864-224-4343OBITUARYFLAG LAWRENCE AVENALL MAY 7, 1922 - February 6, 2009ANDERSON, SCLawrence Joseph Avenall, age 86, of Anderson Place and formerly of Park Ridge, NJ and Meadowbrook Drive, Anderson, SC, passed away Friday, February 06, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Suffern, NY on May 7, 1922, Mr. Avenall was the husband of the late Virginia Adrian Avenall and the son of the late Thomas Avenall and Mary Coogan Avenall. He was a United States Army-Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He retired from the American Can Company as a Manager of the Aircraft Maintenance Department. After his retirement in 1985, he moved to Anderson, SC. He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and was the founding president of the Hilltoppers Senior Citizen Group.Survivors include his sons, John Avenall (Suzanne) and William Avenall (Lisa) all of Anderson; daughters, Barbara LaPointe (Paul) of Hewitt, NJ, Patricia Feuerbach (Carl) of Woodcliff Lake, NJ and Beth Rentz (James) of Rock Hill, SC; brother, Francis Avenall of Bakersfield, CA; sisters, Mary Mattern of Suffern NY, Elizabeth Schram of Utica, NY, Teresa Avenall of Ocala, FL and Ann Boylan of Silverton, OR; sister-in-law, Rita Adrian of Little Ferry, NJ and thirteen grandchildren.In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Avenall.The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 9, 2009 at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph Catholic Church officiated by Father Aubrey McNeil, OFM. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, February 8, with a Prayer Vigil at 4:00 pm with visitation following until 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
