Lawrence Orr Hammett, III died July 26, 2021 at Rainey Hospice House after a brief illness. Lawrence was born in Anderson to Lawrence Orr Hammett, Jr. and Elizabeth Wilson Martin Hammett on August 10, 1950. He was a lifelong resident of Anderson and a loyal Gamecock.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Alice Elizabeth Hammett. He is survived by his wife, Rosalind Jeffcoat Hammett, son, Lawrence Orr Hammett, IV, son, Jacob Keller Hammett, brother Redus Martin Hammett, and sister, May Ligon Hammett Huff, and a host of beloved in-laws and nieces and nephews. Lawrence was first and foremost a family man and loved nothing more than being with those he loved.
At the age of 13 Lawrence took his first guitar lesson and that began a lifelong love of music. He was happiest with a guitar in hand and passed his love of music onto his sons. He wrote and recorded music with his friends of 50 and 60 years. He often played his guitar for his family.
Lawrence was known by many names beginning with Lawrencie, Hambone, LO, the King, Duck, and most importantly "Big". He attended the University of South Carolina and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After returning to Anderson, Lawrence worked for Abney Mills, Vanguard Industries, and W. E. Black Pest Control.
The funeral will be held Saturday, July 31st at 11:00 am at Grace Episcopal Church, 711 S. McDuffie Street. Committal will follow the service in the Memorial Garden. Visitation will follow in the parlor.
