Lawrence Augustus Sutherland Jr., age 96, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson SC.

Born in Iva, SC on June 27, 1930, son of the late Lawrence Augustus Sutherland and Gertrude Ivester Sutherland, he attended Boys High School in Anderson and Clemson College. In his long work career, he started two different companies, Colony Enterprises and Commerce Warehouse and Distributors. He was a US Army veteran. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, and friend. He was a charter member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Anderson, SC, and served as an active member of the Anderson community all his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Ruby Lee Clary Sutherland, and brothers James and Robert Sutherland.

He is survived by his second wife Patsy Bobo Dalton Sutherland and her family. He is also survived by his 3 daughters Lee Ann Sutherland Hopkins (Agnew) of Anderson, SC, Nancy Sutherland Johnstone (Bill) of Cypress, TX, and Carol Sutherland Stoute (Richard) of Anderson, SC. Additional survivors are 3 grandchildren, Chris Stoute of Dallas, GA, Anna Scott of Longview, TX and David Johnstone (Macy) of Cypress, TX, and 5 great-grandchildren, Easton Scott, Walker Scott, Tyler Scott, Ellison Johnstone, and Bauer Johnstone. In addition, he is survived by sisters Mary Sutherland Kelley of Lake City, SC, and Martha Ann Sutherland Peeler (Dennis) of Irmo, SC, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 24, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Anderson, SC. The funeral will begin at 2:00 pm in the sanctuary with Rev. Roy Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery, Anderson SC.
