LEILA SHIRLEYMARCH 22, 1918 - NovemBER 11, 2010ANDERSON, SC ' Leila Blanche Shirley, age 92, affectionately known in the Neals Creek Community as 'Granny Shirley', passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the AnMed Health Medical Center.Born in Habersham County, Georgia, on March 22, 1918, she was a daughter of the late William Carl Kelley, Sr., and Ruby Walters Kelley. Everyone she met loved her and called her 'Granny Shirley'. One of her greatest joys in her life was cooking for her family and friends. Everyone knew they were welcome and there would always be plenty to eat. She was a loving mother and friend, and her death leaves a space that can never be filled in the hearts of her family and many, many friends. Mrs. Shirley was the oldest member of Neals Creek Baptist Church.Mrs. Shirley is survived by her children: Linda Shirley Pierce and husband, Henry 'Gene' Pierce of Anderson, SC, Donnie Shirley and wife, Janice Hayes Shirley of Anderson, SC, Jerry Shirley and wife, Faye Kinley Shirley of Piedmont, SC, Jeannette Shirley Brooks and husband, Tommy Brooks of Belton, SC, and Annette Shirley of the home; twelve grandchildren: DeeDee Hanks and husband, Scotty Hanks, Tracey McCall, Kim Bridges, Timothy Shirley, Dina Sosa and husband, Fernando Sosa, Marty Shirley and wife, Charlotte Shirley, Natalie Shirley, Jeremy Shirley, Jason Shirley and wife, Angie, Brandon Brooks, Chad Brooks, Jennifer Shirley Simmons and husband, Adam Simmons; sixteen great grandchildren: Lucas & Will Shirley, Peyton & Pierce Simmons, Pressley & Kristian Shirley; Harley Shirley, Jacob Hardy, Casey Martin, Travis Hanks, Ivy Buldo, Logan McCall, Daniella Fry, Julianna Sosa, Bry Willard, and Andy Shirley; six great-great grandchildren: Jaylen Martin, Madison Martin, Caleb Martin, Jairus Martin, Kinley Buldo, and Miles Fry; two sisters: Nancy Kelley Sanders of Anderson, SC, and Evelyn Kelley Walls of TN. She was also survived by her caregiver and dear friend, Melissa Turner of Anderson, SC.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, S.D. Shirley; a son, William Ray Shirley; a daughter, Carolyn Shirley; a great-great grandson, Noah Shirley; and three brothers: William Carl Kelley, Jr., Hubert Edward 'Sam' Kelley, and Roy Eugene Kelley.The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at Neals Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Reverend Alex Henderson and the Reverend William R. West, Jr. Burial will follow in the Neals Creek Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Reverend Sam Duncan. The family is at the home, 105 Jeffery Drive, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Saturday.
