Born in Anderson, SC on September 7, 1922, Mr. Burton was a son of the late William Sloan Burton and Nettie Herring Burton. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Wisconsin Battleship. He was the owner and operator of North Main Street Texaco for many years and was also an auto mechanic. Mr. Burton was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Pelzer and a member of the Young at Heart Senior Adult Ministries. He also was a former member of Homeland Park Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer.He is survived by his son, the Reverend Richard A. Burton and his wife, Lori of Pelzer; daughter, Cathy Newton of Louisville, KY; sister, Virginia King of Anderson; four grandchildren, Joshua and Courtney Newton and McKenna and Olivia Burton and one great-grandson, Brandon Newton.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Chambers Burton; brothers, Walter and Boyce Burton and sister, Ruth Ervin.The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 3:00 pm at New Hope Baptist Church, Pelzer, SC, officiated by the Reverend Richard A. Burton, Reverend Bill Bryant and Reverend Bill Ellison. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 6-8 pm.
