LEWELLYN H. PETERSON Lewellyn Henderson Peterson, age 98, a resident of The Garden House in Anderson, passed away at Rainey Hospice House on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Born in Pickens, SC on October 23, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Robert Llewellyn Henderson and the late Viola Looper Henderson. Mrs. Peterson was the loving and devoted wife of the late Capers Linneaus Peterson until his death in 2004. Following high school graduation, Mrs. Peterson attended Lander College where she met the love of her life, Capers L. Peterson, Citadel Class of 1929, and they were among America's Greatest Generation. Upon conclusion of WW II, the Peterson family returned to their home in Greenwood, SC, where she was a member of the Azalea Garden Club, McKissick Study Club, DAR, the Greenwood Woman's Club, Supper Club, Nine O'Clock Dance Club, and Dance del Noel Assembly. She loved to sew and play bridge with friends. They were members of First Presbyterian Church in Greenwood, where she was active in the Women of the Church and taught Sunday School. After her husband's retirement, the couple moved to Anderson to enjoy their daughters and grandchildren. They were members of First Presbyterian Church in Anderson. Mrs. Peterson is survived by two daughters, Lynn P. Jones and her husband, Dr. Frederic G. Jones, of Charleston, and Ruth P. Belk and her husband, Dr. Robert B. Belk, Sr., of Anderson. Six grandchildren, Ruth Soliday, Gordon Jones and his wife, Jennifer, Ashley Lawrence and her husband, David, Robert B. Belk, Jr. and his wife, Denise, Lynn McClary and her husband, Jim, and David Belk and his wife, Marsha. Also surviving are sixteen great-grandchildren. She was the youngest of nine children and was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and one grandchild. The funeral service to honor and celebrate the wonderful life of Lewellyn H. Peterson will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at 11 a.m. at The Gallant Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, Anderson, with Rev. Dr. Dennis Tedder and Rev. Caroline East Berardi officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. Robert B. Belk, Sr. on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Donations in memory of Mrs. Lewellyn H. Peterson may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
