Elizabeth Dowis Higginbotham, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016, at Ellenburg Nursing Center. Born in Anderson, SC on April 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Walter Matheson Dowis and the late Tensi Lee Kinsey. After graduating high school, Lib worked as a seamstress at Bobby Dan Manufacturing. She was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Turner (James), of Anderson, SC; a son, Kenneth Ray Higginbotham (Denise), of Anderson, SC; five grandchildren, Dionne Bauknight, Brandon Higginbotham, Carla Turner, Eric Higginbotham, and Lauren Mays; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Garnett Higginbotham; sons, Ronnie E. Higginbotham, and Terry D. Higginbotham; brothers, Walter "Bud" M. Dowis, Jr., and Ray M. Dowis, Sr.; and sisters, Jeanette Dowis Campbell, and Barbara Ann Dowis Hart. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverends Dr. Kirt Mitchell and Wendell Rhodes officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at their respective homes, and will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service on Sunday, November 20, 2016, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Varennes Heights Baptist Church Child Development Center, 411 Visage Dr, Anderson, SC 29626.
