Obituary

Mrs. Lillian Amanda Brown Glenn (age 94), wife of the late Boyce Franklin Glenn, Jr., passed away on July 31, 2018 at AnMed Health Medical Center. A life-long resident of Anderson, Mrs. Glenn was born on October 30, 1923 to Joseph Dexter Brown and Frances Finley Brown. She was the sixth of eight children. She was a 1940 graduate of Anderson Girls High School. She was president of the senior class and the recipient of the Bailes Ring. In 1944, she graduated from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, VA. She was president of her Kappa Delta sorority. Later, she received a master's degree from Clemson University. Mrs. Glenn served as a Navy WAVE in World War II. Later, she was employed by Anderson County District Five as a guidance counselor for seven years. She served on the boards of several local civic and charitable organizations. She was also a devoted member of the Anderson Garden Club and held many leadership roles. Mrs. Glenn was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson. She served on many committees and was a faithful member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She taught Sunday School for over forty years and was elected one of the first three women deacons. Survivors include her children; Frances Finley Glenn Singleton and Elizabeth Brown Glenn Marvin both of Anderson and John Dexter Glenn (Nancy) of Tampa, FL; a brother, Dr. John Francis Brown (Judy) of Chapin, SC; six grandchildren; Franklin Matthew Jones (Jennifer) Elizabeth Amanda Jones Riendeau (Rick), Michael Keaton Jones (Austin), Brandy Lillian Marvin Kayzakian-Rowe (Djerek), Mary Cathryn Glenn VanBibber (Nick) and Caroline Amanda Glenn; also survived by six great-grandchildren; Finley Sparks Jones, Ivey McQuire Jones, Lenora Franklin Jones, Hampton Berkley Jones, Fisher Keaton Jones, Jane Margaret VanBibber. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Boyce Franklin Glenn III; two sisters Gladys Brown Rogers and Elizabeth Brown Wakefield; four brothers, John Donald Brown, Edward Finley Brown, Joseph Dexter Brown, Jr., and Clarence Gist Brown; son-in-law, James Edward Singleton and a granddaughter-in-law, Kinsey Black Jones. The Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 3, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Anderson, conducted by the Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason and Dr. Joshua Hunt. A private burial will precede the service in New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family is at the home, 206 Whitehall Road and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Thursday, August 2, 2018.
