IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Linda Barrett
Bascue
November 8, 1938 – March 14, 2024
Linda Barrett Bascue of Anderson, SC, passed into the arms of her loving Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at the age of 85.
Born in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Odis & Opal Barrett. She was married to the late Donald William "Bill" Bascue for 55 years, until his death in 2015.
At the age of 12 years old, Linda surrendered her life to Jesus Christ, beginning her life of service & surrender to Him. She was pianist/organist at both Garner Memorial Baptist Church and Central Baptist Church from 12 to 20 years old. Her music being a way her faith had expression.
Linda graduated from Girls High and attended Anderson College on a nursing scholarship, before becoming a military wife.
In 1960 she married "Bill" Bascue and followed him around the world during his career of more than 25 years in the U.S. Air Force, while raising their family. This journey provided new music ministry opportunity, serving as U.S. Military base chapel pianist/organist in Mildenhall, England; Ramstein, Germany; Tehran Community Church, Tehran, Iran; and many U.S. locales.
She was a beacon of light and hope to so many whose paths she crossed. Linda encouraged and reminded everyone that the loving Savior paid our sin debt, giving Himself that we may have Salvation and Everlasting life with Him. Linda would often refer to Romans 12: 1&2, the scripture that brought her to the knowledge of His saving grace at 12 years old.
Even during times when her husband was sent to remote military locations for a 1-year period; she remained behind raising 4 children, leading Bible studies, teaching Sunday school in addition to her music ministry. All the while, developing lifelong relationships of Christian friends like Sharon Marshall of New Jersey, who prayed for and encouraged Linda daily until her passing.
After her husband's retirement she returned to Anderson, resuming her music ministry at Central Baptist Church, and then Garner Memorial Baptist Church, where she remained a member.
To know Linda was to love her. Her children were blessed to have been raised by this extraordinary woman who prayed for and encouraged them to trust and serve the Lord. She was the Champion of her grandchildren & great grandchildren. They adored their beloved "MA."
She is survived by her four children: Sherry Janushkowsky (Col.Victor), Scott Bascue (Traci), Shannon Bascue (Christy) and Staccey Bascue (Kimberly). Grandchildren: Lt. Stephen Janushkowsky, Capt. Jordan Janushkowsky (Jordan), Barrett Bascue (Kate), Alex Bascue, Phillip Hanks (Kayla) and Jonathan Hanks. Great grandchildren: Evan, Christian & Lucas Janushkowsky and Tripp, Jake, Dean & Henry Hanks and extended family.
Linda's life journey for the past 2 ½ years led her into the loving care of Dr. & Mrs. John & Sydel Doster and their extraordinary medical staff at Anderson Area Cancer Center. She loved them and rejoiced at her time in their presence.
