Lonnie Martin Bagwell, age 92, of Greenville, SC, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Born June 13, 1933, in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late William Fred Bagwell, Sr. and Emma Richardson Bagwell. He was married to Jean Bagwell until her death in 2019. He was also preceded in death by brothers, William F. Bagwell, Jr. (Edna), Carl Bagwell (Kathryn), Ellis Bagwell (Nancy), Wade Bagwell (Bobbie), and Hoyt Bagwell; and sisters, Edith Harrison (Otis), Gladys Spearman (J.C.), Ruth Bagwell, and Sybil Williams (Frank). He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Danny Landreth.
Lonnie had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed all sports, especially the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed yardwork and took a lot of pride in tending to his yard and helping his neighbors. He also loved to travel and had traveled all over the world during his lifetime. He was a devoted member of Boulevard Baptist Church where he had many friends and was loved by all. Lonnie spent most of his career with Southeastern Freightlines and served in the National Guard. He loved his daughters beyond words, and his grandchildren and great grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He was so proud of his family. Lonnie will be greatly missed by so many.
He is survived by his daughters, Kay Payne (Barry) and Pam Landreth; grandchildren, Heather Ludwigsen (Kris), Andrea Frye (Paul), Lauren Lanford (Justin), and Emilee Abercrombie (Brent); great grandchildren, Gavin Ludwigsen, Bennett Lanford, Emma Kate Lanford, Brooks Abercrombie, and a baby girl on the way; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Bagwell.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Boulevard Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Couch, Rev. Tracy Turner, and Dr. Austin Carty officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Sunday School Class Mission Fund at Boulevard Baptist Church, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
