Lorraine Alene Bowen Chapman, age 88, of The Renaissance of Due West, SC, formerly of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at National Health Care of Anderson. Born in Portland, OR on October 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Bowen and the late Irene Ellen Wills Bowen. For forty-four years she was the loving and devoted wife of the late William M. "Bill" Chapman, Jr. until his death in 1996.
Mrs. Chapman was very devoted to her family and friends, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church since the family moved to Anderson in 1971. Lorraine enjoyed reading and baking as well as arts and crafts. She felt her greatest accomplishment was raising her five children, the love she held in her heart for them and the grandchildren, and for the pride of being a military wife.
Mrs. Chapman is survived by three sons, Dennis Chapman and his wife, Angie, of Anderson, Donald Chapman and his wife, Amy, of Anderson, and Doug Chapman and his wife, Libby, of Taylors; two daughters, Debbie Smyth and her husband Andy, and Darlene Chapman-Spearman, both of Anderson; seven grandchildren, Alyson Smyth, Brittany Smyth, Melissa Balch and her husband, Stephen, Jason Chapman and his wife, Jennifer, Kimberly Spearman, Kelley Chapman, and Ashley Chapman. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Bill, Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Lloyd, Alfred, and Bobby Bowen. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Lorraine Chapman will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at 4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Teasley and Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the residence of Don and Amy Chapman, 10 Oleander Drive, Anderson, and will receive friends at Trinity United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.
