God's grace and light shone from her life even to her last moments, and her wisdom, gentleness and kindness will be remembered by the large number of family and friends she blessed throughout her life. She is now welcomed into the arms of her loving God.Louise was born Martha Louise Bruce in Anderson, South Carolina, on September 26, 1921, to Clarence Arthur Bruce and Eunice Simmons Bruce. Her family included brother Laurens Bruce (deceased), sister Elizabeth Bruce Rowland, and brother C. Arthur ('Moe') Bruce. After spending her childhood in South Carolina, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until the end of World War II in Washington, D.C. There she met her future husband Donald G. Stave, who was serving in the U.S. Army. The two were engaged three days after meeting, and married in 1946, enjoying 64 years of marriage together. Don and Louise were graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and lived most of their married lives in the Pacific Northwest. She will be missed by her husband Don and three children, Thomas (wife Victoria), Rebecca Evans (husband David), and Jeffrey (wife Yvonne); by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by friends and family in the Northwest and in South Carolina.Louise served as a librarian with the Multnomah County Library. After her retirement as Head of the Southwest Hills branch in Hillsdale, she continued to enjoy a book and hiking group she had fostered at the library. She was an elder, teacher and active member of Westside United Protestant Church in Richland, WA, and Moreland Presbyterian Church and Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Portland. Church, family and library all were blessed as she shared her love of God, of reading, and of people, especially young people.Memorial donations may be made to the Multnomah County Library Book Discussion Fund (www.multcolib.org).
