Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel Theron Akin Henry, Jr., age 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Amsterdam, NY on March 2, 1936, he was the only child of the late Theron Akin Henry, Sr. and Bessie Mead Henry. He was a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and retired following 22 years of service in the United States Air Force. His career in the Air Force included tours in the Far East and working with the J3 Division of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was an assistant professor of chemistry at the Air Force Academy, he instructed the ROTC at Clemson University, and retired his career teaching at the Air War College. Ted was an active member of Central Presbyterian Church serving as Elder, Past Clerk of Session, Sunday School Teacher, and attended the Koinonia Sunday School Class. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 52 years, Becky Henry; two daughters, Millie Henry Kittrell and her husband Ben, and Noelle Henry Read and her husband Denny; and five grandchildren, Trey Kittrell, and Ethan, Emily, Benjamin, and Daniel Read. Following a private family committal service with full military honors at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, the funeral service will be held at Central Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2017, with Reverend Dr. David J. Bailey officiating. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Memorial Fund, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
