LUCIUS E. USSERY October 9, 1916 - October 3, 2012 Lucius Evans Ussery, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in Canon, GA, he was the son of the late Jehu B. Ussery and the late Austin Bowers Ussery. For 52 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of the late Mary King Ussery until her death in 1992. Mr. Ussery was retired from Orr-Lyons Mill after over 30 years of dedicated service as an overseer in the cloth room. He proudly served his nation in the US Army and was a devoted member of The First Baptist Church of Anderson, where he was a longstanding member of the Tom Allen Bible Class. He liked to pick his guitar, listen to country music and watch his favorite western and comedy reruns on TV. For relaxation he enjoyed walking, gardening, and taking family vacations to Daytona Beach, Florida. Left to carry on Mr. Ussery's legacy are 3 very special daughters he dearly loved, Joyce U. Sunde and her husband, Jon, of Mansfield, TX, Betty U. Doker and her husband, Phil, of Anderson, and Marilyn U. Masters and her husband, Bill, of Matthews, NC; a nephew, Frankie Burden of Anderson; 7 grandchildren, Ross Sunde, Tiffany Shelley, Tara Loftis, Adrian Doker, Jennifer Ashley, Matthew Masters, Kevin Masters; 6 great-granddaughters, Kamryn, Kendall, Karsen, Abby, Katie, and Norah. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Mary, Lucius was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Ussery, a sister, Vera Burden, and a niece, Elizabeth Ussery. Funeral Services to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Lucius E. Ussery will be held on Friday, October 5, 2012, at 3 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Jim Thomason officiating. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Friday, October 5, from 1 PM until 2:30 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
