Born in Anderson, SC, Mr. Blackwell was a son of the late William Fletcher Blackwell and Dolia Ione Bowen Blackwell. He retired from textiles and was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Sybil Smith Blackwell of the home; daughters, Betty Holliday-Smith and Brenda McClure, both of Anderson, SC, Marilyn Knowles of Chapin, SC, Carolyn Stewart-Martin of Anderson, SC and Judy Bryan of Savannah, GA; brother, Dewitt Blackwell; sisters, Margaret Jones, Pearl Harrington and Alice Hendrix; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sons, Herbert Alton Blackwell, Tommy David Blackwell and Luther Eugene 'Sonny' Blackwell, Jr., three brothers and three sisters.A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Hwy 81 N, officiated by the Reverend Thomas C. Maxwell. Immediately following the graveside service, the family will host a reception at Sullivan's Metropolitan Grill, 208 S. Main St, Anderson.The family will be at the home of his daughter, Betty Holliday-Smith, 2910 Midway Road, Anderson, SC and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pmFlowers are optional.
