Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Roy Dewey McAlister and the late Mary Elva Junkins McAlister. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After receiving a Law Degree, M.A. worked for West Publishing Company before returning to his home town where he gladly served the Anderson area well in matters concerning the law for many years. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Eleanor Terrell McAlister of the home; three daughters, Tara McAlister Poore (Steve) of Hayesville, NC, Susan Taylor Rash (Tom) of Asheville, NC and Alisa Taylor Gibson (Bill) of Anderson; a son, John Taylor, of Clemson; a daughter-in-law Vicki McCarter McAlister; two brothers, Charles M. McAlister of Leesville, SC and Roy Dewey McAlister of Asheville, NC; four sisters, Una Hoff of Lexington, SC, Myra Markham of Orlanda, FL, Dorcas Allen of Clayton, MO and Ariel Smith of Piedmont, SC; seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Minard Alvaro McAlister, Jr.; a brother, Marshall McAlister; and two sisters, Peg Stephens and Wilva Long. A Visitation to honor the life of Mr. McAlister will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.
