MABLE SEAY BELK
Sarah Mable Seay Belk, age 94, of 807 Belk Drive, died at her residence on Sunday, November 10, 2013. Born in Reynolds, GA, she was a daughter of the late Emory Francis Seay and the late Ruth Blackmon Seay. For 61 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Dr. James C. Belk until his death in 2003.
Mrs. Belk is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. Following her graduation from the University, she worked for a brief period as a medical technologist. However for most of her adult life she was a wonderful and loving wife, Mother, and Grandmother. In her role as homemaker, she took pride in her home, and was known by many to be an excellent cook. Mable was a faithful member of Central Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Ladies Tuesday AM Bible Class and the Joanna Circle. She was a member of Anderson Medical Auxiliary, the Anderson Woman's Club, as well as the Anderson Garden Club. She was also an active member of Club 24and the Friday Afternoon Book Club.
She was survived by three sons, James Seay Belk and his wife, Patsy, Robert Edward Belk and his wife, Margaret, and David Philip Belk and his wife, Sue, all of Anderson; three daughters, Genie Fogle and husband, John Robert, of Brevard, NC, Frances Ruth Smith of Anderson, and Marie Belk Fadeley and her husband, Richard, of Columbia, SC; one sister, Barbara Seay Gibson of Chiefland, FL; nine grandchildren, Marie Engel, Jonathan Fogle, Susannah Horton, Jeremy Smith, David Smith, Britton Buist, Philip Belk, Beth Fadeley, and Ginny Fadeley; and seven great-grandchildren, Jake Engel, Morgan Engel, Nate Fogle, Willa Fogle, Caroline Seay Horton, Kelly Buist and Rowan Buist.
In addition to her parents, and her husband, Dr. Belk, Mrs. Belk was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Faxton Seay and sisters, Mildred Brown and Frances Holl. She was also predeceased by two very dear friends, Elizabeth Bolt and Kay Prevost.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Belk will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at Central Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. David J. Bailey officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the Central Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.
The Belk family would like to thank caregivers, Cora Campbell, Linda Winfield, Randi Hobbs, Taysha Winfield and Tayna Winfield.
