Madeline Spence Gunter, age 77, of Starr, SC, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born March 5, 1944, in Abbeville, she was the daughter of the late William Howard Taft Spence and Maggie Pressley Spence. She was the widow of Jimmy Ray Gunter. Madeline was retired from Anderson School District Five. She was a volunteer at the District Five Swim Center and enjoyed going to the gym and walking. She is survived by her sons, James Robert Gunter (Elizabeth) of Columbia, SC and Howard Ray Gunter (Norma) of Woodbridge, VA; daughters, Carolee Byrum (Dean) of Iva, SC, and Suzanne McClendon (David) of Wharton, TX; 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy and Jerry Spence; and sisters, Ramona Spence, Carolyn Moore, Brenda Garrett, Judy Spence, and Margaret Spence. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 14, 2021, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Smith officiating.
