Formerly of Iva, SC, she was the widow of Hugh Marvin Hayes, Sr.Born in Anderson County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Grover M. Dickson, Sr. and Lillie Gibbs Dickson. She was a seamstress by trade and enjoyed quilting in addition to being an avid flower gardener. She was best known for her generous heart as she freely gave many of her quilts as gifts and being a wonderful loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by daughters, Mable Greenway of Elberton, GA, Evelyn Sanders and her husband, Larry of Hartwell, GA, and Sue Brown and her husband, Doug of Iva, SC; son, Melvin Hayes and his wife, Debbie of Iva, SC; daughter-in-law, Ann Hayes of Anderson, SC; sister, Marjorie Durham, of Liberty, SC; brothers, William Dickson and his wife, Angie of Chapels, SC and Grover Monroe Dickson, Jr. and his wife, Faye of Pink Hill, NC and 'adopted sister', Mildred McCurley. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Hugh Marvin 'Bo' Hayes, Jr., four brothers and six sisters. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 8, 2011, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Carswell Baptist Church officiated by the Reverend James Bannister. Burial will follow at the Carswell Baptist Church Cemetery.
