MAJOR ALVIN COWAN June 29, 1919 - December 9, 2005ANDERSON, SCMr. Major Alvin Cowan, age 86, husband of Lucile E. Cowan of Anderson, SC, died Friday, December 09, 2005.Born in Anderson County, SC on June 29, 1919, Mr. Cowan was the son of the late A.E. 'Bud' Cowan and Ouida Major Cowan. He was a retired dairyman and served as past board member of the Federal Land Bank. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and a former deacon at Little River Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, Lucile E. Cowan of the home; daughters, Lynda McCurry of Saint Thomas USVI and Anderson, SC, Patsy Drake of Simpsonville, SC, Sue Coffin of Anderson, SC and Beth Gilstrap of Sunset, SC; two sisters, Mary Marchant of Anderson, SC and Ruby Brock of Greenville, SC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was twice married, first to Faye Penland Cowan.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James Allen Cowan and Wofford Cowan.A graveside service will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2005 at 2:00 pm at Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Belton, SC officiated by the Reverend Randy Blank.
