WAKEFIELD July 21, 1918 - September 20, 2007IVA, SCMajor Douglas McGee Wakefield, age 89, husband of Marian Eugenia Patterson Wakefield, of 706 Betsy Street, Iva, SC, died Thursday, September 20, 2007.Born in Iva, SC on July 21, 1918, Mr. Wakefield was the son of the late Henry Smart Wakefield and Maude McGee Wakefield. He was educated in the schools of Iva and then attended Presbyterian College and West Virginia University. He served as a bomber pilot during World War II and retired from the Air Force Reserves. Mr. Wakefield owned and operated Wakefield Mercantile Company of Iva. He was active in civic affairs in the community including the Chamber of Commerce, Lion's Club and Iva Community Improvement Association, Inc. (REVIVA). He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Iva and served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Choir Member.He is survived by his wife, Marian of 67 years; his son, Douglas McGee Wakefield, Jr., and wife, Susan of Charleston, SC; daughter Dorothy Wakefield Hensley and husband, Greg of Mooresville, NC. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Douglas McGee Wakefield III, Mary Virginia Wakefield, Alexandra Hensley, Houston Hensley and his sister, Dorothy Wakefield Jordan of Iva. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Iva with the Reverend Jerry Gray, Reverend Paul Pinson and Reverend Roger Estridge officiating. Honorary pallbearers are from the Men's Sunday School Class, also Ernie Simpson and Randy Waters. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.The family will be at the residence.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church of Iva, P.O.
