Margaret Ann Thompson Dillard, age 82, wife of Billy Dillard, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at Emory University Hospital.
Born December 28, 1941, in Anderson, SC, she was the youngest daughter of the late Henry Justice Thompson and Mae Moore Thompson.
In addition to her husband of 64 years, she is survived by her son, Bill Dillard, III and wife Misty of Anderson, SC; daughters, Alison Dillard Phillips and husband John of Banner Elk, NC, and Ellen Dillard Carroll and husband Kevin of Peachtree Corners, GA; sister, Donna Styles and husband Charles of Travelers Rest, SC; 7 grandchildren, Billy Dillard, IV and wife Hannah, Henry "Hank" Dillard, Margaret "Alli" Phillips, Austin Phillips, Elizabeth "Libby" Phillips, Luke Carroll and Grace Carroll; 2 great grandchildren, Gracelyn Margaret Dillard and Ezra Dillard; and 27 nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 7 brothers, Carlisle Thompson, James Thompson, Horace "Tab" Thompson, Jack Thompson, David Thompson, Floyd "Git" Thompson, Harold "Buggs" Thompson; and 3 sisters, Viola "Bokie" Griffin, Ninetta Spearman, and Fredda Acker.
Margaret was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt to many who loved her dearly. Nothing made Margaret happier than preparing for visits from her family for the many special traditions she created for all to enjoy. Margaret led an active life. She had a love for all sports but tennis and golf were her favorites. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church and the Open Door Sunday School Class. She was the former president of Cardinal Racquet Club, Miss SC Universe, Miss AmVets USA, Cheerleader for the T.L. Hanna Yellow Jackets and Clemson University, Tigerama Homecoming Queen, former president of the Women's Golf Association and was a club Champion, and a member of the Junior League of Anderson.
Whether she was worshipping with her church family, working in the garden, playing bridge with her friends, traveling and hanging out with the love of her life Billy, or pulling for her Clemson Tigers, she enjoyed every minute of life and loved all who were a part of it.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Boulevard Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Austin Carty and Pastor Billy Dillard, IV officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:15-2:45 pm. A private burial will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
