MARGARET DUNHAM October 24, 1921 - September 22, 2012 Mrs. Margaret Louise Gurley Dunham, age 90, passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2012, at her residence at Christian City in Union City, GA. Born in Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Bell Gurley and the late Rose Lee Mauldin Gurley. For 60 years she was the loving, faithful and devoted wife of the late John Andrew Dunham until his death. Many from Anderson will remember Mrs. Dunham as a sales associate at Gene Anderson's Department Store in downtown Anderson. Upon her retirement, she opened her own antique shop on Pearman Dairy Road, appropriately naming it "Maggie's Olde Shoppe," which she operated for over 10 years. Until she moved to Christian City, she was a faithful member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Left to carry on her legacy is her daughter, Gail D. Godfrey and her husband, David Evans of Eatonton, GA; 6 grandchildren, Cecelia, Chris and Barbara Jones, Sherri Poarch, Brent Godfrey and Ginny Lopez; also surviving are 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. In addition to her parents and her husband, John Andrew Dunham, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Rose Dunham. A Funeral Mass to celebrate the life of Margaret Dunham will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012, at 11 AM at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Anderson, with Father Aubrey McNeil officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 6 PM until 8 PM with a prayer vigil to be held at 7:45 PM conducted by Brother Henry Fulmer. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Mrs. Dunham be made to Christian City, 7300 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291, or to Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 1303 McLees Road, Anderson, SC 29621. The family wishes to thank the staff of Christian City for the loving care provided Mrs. Dunham during her residency there.
