Obituary

Mariam G. Fish, 97, of Regency Park, Anderson, died peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2015. She was born on July 29, 1918, in Holden, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Thomas and Hollie (Finn) Gardhouse. She grew up in Louisville, Kentucky and was a 1939 graduate of the University of Kentucky. She was appointed by the Governor as a member of The Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. In 1942, she married Ensign Robert B. Fish. Following his war service, with job relocations, they lived in many different and interesting places as they raised their family. Upon his retirement in 1982, they settled in Anderson. He passed away in 1992 after nearly 50 years of marriage. She was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson and was active in many community groups. She enjoyed traveling, visits from her family and keeping up with current events. She proudly rode horses at a dude ranch for her 80th birthday and flew cross country for her 90th birthday party. Her mind remained sharp and she still did crossword puzzles in ink. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Kevin Fish, and her sister, Lula Thompson. She is survived by a son, Robert B. Fish, Jr. and daughter-in-law Barbara from Parkersburg, West Virginia, a second son, Thomas A. Fish, of Renton, Washington and a daughter, Sally A. Hodge and son-in-law Jim, of Denver, Colorado and grandsons Robert Fish, III; Ward Fish and wife Carli, Matthew Hodge and Daniel Hodge. A Memorial Service will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dennis Tedder at the First Presbyterian Church of Anderson, 302 W. Whitner St, Anderson at 2:00 pm, Saturday, October 3, 2015. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Friday, October 2, 2015 at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. A private interment service will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a local charity or to First Presbyterian Church.
