The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, South Carolina 29621864-224-4343OBITUARYMARIE LOUISE GILLIAMMARCH 13, 1925 - March 22, 2010ANDERSON, SC -- Marie Louise Gilliam, resident of Anderson, was born on March 13, 1925, in Huy, Belgium, and passed away on March 22, 2010.She was preceded in death by her husband Royce Brabham Gilliam. The two met during the German occupation of Belgium amidst World War II. Before marrying and shortly after the invasion began, Mrs. Gilliam then, Marie Louise Maillard began serving with the Belgian underground tirelessly. Most of her time was spent working on a farm, which served to hide and protect all whom were sympathetic to her homeland and perform first aid for injured soldiers. She shared a story about a time when she and others bleached cloth to make stars and dyed other cloth strips red and blue to assemble an American flag for the coming troops. She would later go on to show that same love and dedication for her husband and girls, often sewing entire wardrobes for both girls and always being a flexible and supportive military wife during multiple moves around the world. After raising her girls she extended her heart and service to Anderson Memorial Hospital where she served as Executive Director of Housekeeping. While there she demanded equality and fairness for all while maintaining high standards for a job well done. Until her death she considered the AnMed organization as an extended part of her family. Mrs. Gilliam is survived by two daughters, Marguerite Willard of Mauldin and Shirley J. Gilliam of Anderson; three granddaughters, eight great grandchildren, and a special long time friend Mildred Jones -- who she considered a sister. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, March 29, 2010, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Dr. William R. Childs. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 515 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624. or to Meals on Wheels, P.O.
