Marilyn Ann Thiel Waldsmith, 78, of 209 Obannon Court, Anderson, SC, died January 12, 2019 at The Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Daniel Joseph Waldsmith Sr. for nearly 61 years.
Born in Detroit, MI, she was the daughter of the late Basil Frank Thiel and Dorothy Mary Dempsey Thiel.
Marilyn was a devoted wife and stay at home mother. After caring for her family for years, she worked in a physician's office. Marilyn loved working with the patients. After moving to Anderson, she was a long-time volunteer for The Anderson Free Clinic and actively served the community in other areas.
She was a lifelong Roman Catholic Christian and faithful member of St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church in Anderson where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Women's Club, and volunteer in several capacities.
Marilyn loved family gatherings, spending time with friends, traveling with her husband, and escaping the cold Winter months to Florida. She was known for her quick wit and humor. Marilyn bravely battled Alzheimer's Disease for over ten years. When she received her diagnosis, she made her battle plan, and shared that plan with her family. She lived her life as she wished. She lived and died with dignity. While the disease took her sight and restricted her movement, it did not take her spirit. As her physical condition lessened, her compassion for people and appreciation for the simplest of God's gifts increased exponentially. The family would like everyone to know that Marilyn never lost her quick, wit or sense of humor, love and appreciation of life, and positive outlook. In the last few weeks of her life the only sadness she expressed was her inability to attend her beloved church.
Along with her husband, she is survived by her beloved family: sister, Dorothy J. Shepherd of Lewiston, MI; brother, Chuck B. Thiel (Nancy) of Grosse Point, MI; son, John J. Waldsmith (Maria Carolina) of Anderson, SC; daughter, Debra A. Moody (Vince) of Columbia, TN; son, Daniel J. Waldsmith Jr. (Nikki) of Anderson, SC; son, Chuck J.
