Marlene R. Ventura, loving wife and mother, passed away on August 8th, 2019 at the age of 75. Born Marlene Slawson in Buffalo, NY, this driven woman graduated from Villa Maria Academy and became an RN. She went on to earn a Master's Degree in Health Education and a Doctorate in Healthcare from the University of Buffalo. She enjoyed a fulfilling career, working as an educator, administrative and research nurse, and later as Director of Research Compliance at Clemson University. Marlene and her husband, Sebastian Ventura celebrated forty-six years of marriage on July 21st. Together they raised one son, Sebastian Ventura Jr. Marlene was a bright, multi-faceted woman that cherished her family and friends, and always loved people just for being themselves. She loved all animals and enjoyed spending time with her dogs. Marlene is predeceased by her parents, Henry and Helen Slawson, and her brother Kenneth Slawson. She is survived by her husband Sebastian and son Sebastian Jr; Kenneth's wife Norine and their children Dan, Cheryl, and Marty; her brother Arthur Slawson, his wife Sandra, and their children Derek and Jennifer; as well as a large network of family and friends that will miss her dearly. Calling Hours will be August 13th from 6pm to 8pm at the McDougald Funeral Home and a Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on August 14th at 11am.
