MARNOCETA THOMAS IVA, SCMrs. Marnoceta 'Marny' Rice Thomas, age 78, wife of Allen Thomas of 102 Old River Road, Iva, SC, died Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC.Born in Opelika, Alabama, she was the daughter of the late George C. Rice and Veva Elliott Hambright. Mrs. Thomas was a registered nurse; she received her training at the Anderson Hospital during WWII. After working for several years as a nurse for the Anderson Hospital, Mrs. Thomas served as the plant nurse for the Bigelow Sanford Rocky River Plant and for the Owens Corning Fiberglas plant. For twenty-four years, she served on the Anderson County Voter Registration and Election Board, retiring as the Director in 1992. Before the Iva Rescue Squad was formed, Mrs. Thomas volunteered as the nurse for Iva softball tournaments. She was a past member of the Shamrock Garden Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Jackson C. and George Elliott Rice and by her sisters, Virginia Rice and Annie Ruth Lucado.Surviving are her three daughters, Gwendolyn Thomas Stowe and husband Timothy E. of Gastonia, NC; Janet Thomas Parnell and husband, William H., Jr., of Anderson; and Kathy Thomas Glass and husband, David A. of Richmond, VA; five granddaughters, Jynne Ruth Stowe of Anderson; Lauren JoAnn Parnell of Graceville, FL; Christy Stowe Meadows and husband Aaron S. of Calhoun Falls; Erin Nicole Parnell of Anderson; Caroline Rice Glass of Richmond, VA; and two grandsons, Jamin Allen Parnell of Anderson and David Allen Glass, Jr., of Richmond, VA.The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, November 18, 2006 at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2006 in The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel.
