Martha Dowis Bowick, age 85, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully Thursday, August 17, 2023, at NHC Healthcare Anderson. Born October 29, 1937, in Ninety Six, SC, she was the daughter of the late Haynie Marion Dowis and Varnell Osteen Dowis. She was also preceded in death by her sister Marion Mandrell. Marcy graduated from Furman University in 1959 with a B.A. degree in Education. She retired from Anderson School District Five after 30 years of teaching elementary children. She loved watching sports on TV and played basketball in high school. She cherished her time with family and friends. She especially loved the bond with her friends from Ninety Six, who began elementary school together. They went on to graduate high school together and maintained a close relationship for over 50 years. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church. Marcy loved with her whole heart. She was funny, giving, kind, compassionate, forgiving, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her daughter Andrea DeVries (Joel) of Anderson, SC; her son, John Michael Bowick of Anderson, SC; grandsons, Dalton Oakes and Peter DeVries; granddaughter, Hannah DeVries; 3 great grandchildren; and several special nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank the staff at NHC Healthcare Anderson and Caris Healthcare for their wonderful care of Marcy. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 11:00 am at Boulevard Baptist Church with Dr. Austin Carty officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
