Martha McKinney Griffith, 81, of Anderson, formerly from Shelby, North Carolina, and Anderson, SC, widow of the late Alvin Griffith died Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born, February 1, 1934 in Greenville, she was the daughter of the late Walter N and Lois Rouda McKinney. She was a retired bookkeeper for Anderson School District 5 with 24 years of service. Mrs. Griffith was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Until her health declined, she loved working in her yard and growing all types of flowers. She taught ceramics in her home for many years. She loved to sew and while living in Greenwood played the organ at Abney Memorial Baptist Church. She was an avid Clemson Tiger Fan and loved her Tigers. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Anderson.
Survivors include her two daughters, Pam Griffith Shiflet of Anderson, SC and Pat Griffith of Firestone, Colorado, and a son, Mickey Griffith and wife Vivian of Shelby, North Carolina; a granddaughter, Lauren Griffith Baldwin (Brad) of Shelby, NC; four grandsons, Justin Griffith (Emily) of Shelby, NC; Mackenzie Griffith (Gina) of Shelby, NC, Craig Shiflet of Anderson, SC, and Alex Griffith of Firestone, Colorado; a great-grandson, Ethan Baldwin, of Shelby, NC; a brother, Rev. Hugh McKinney of Kershaw, SC and a sister, Mary McKinney Nix of Fuquay Varina, NC. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam McKinney Poteat of Greenville, SC.
The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, February 9, 2015at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Hugh McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family is at the home of her daughter, Pam Griffith Shiflet, 107 Toliver Lane, Anderson, SC 29626, and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, prior to the service; from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Flowers are optional with memorials in her memory to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC.
