GUNTER February 18, 1912 - December 15, 2012 Martha Elizabeth Franks Gunter, a centurion whose life expanded just over 100 years, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, she was a daughter of the late Lester Franks and the late Claudia Scoggins Franks. For over 56 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late James Marvin Gunter, who died in 1988. Mrs. Gunter was employed at Anderson Mill in the 1930's. Later, the family relocated and she worked in retail sales at J.C. Penny Department Store, and subsequently retired from Rich's Department Store at Greenbrier Mall in Atlanta. She enjoyed flowers and birds, and always appreciated drives through "her beautiful downtown Anderson." Mrs. Gunter was a member of Garner Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include 2 sons, Jimmy Gunter and Claude Gunter, both of Anderson; a granddaughter, Dionne and husband Wayne; and 2 great-grandsons, Christopher and Matthew. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Grace Stamps and Nadine Dobson; and 3 brothers, Tommy, Doug and Harold Franks. A Graveside Service to celebrate the beautiful, long life of Martha Gunter will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 1 PM in the Mausoleum Chapel at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Rev. Dr. Jack Couch officiating. The family is at the residence, 105 Nottingham Way, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, December 17, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
