Martha Gambrell Powell, age 95, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Born February 27, 1930, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Lucian J. Gambrell and Myrtis Gambrell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Robert Powell, her daughter, Pat Madray, and her brother, Dewey H. Gambrell.

Martha retired from Anderson College where she was the secretary in the campus ministry department. She was a member of Boulevard Baptist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Martha was an exceptional cook, was famous for her pound cakes, and enjoyed canning. Other favorite past times included dancing, playing the piano and organ. She was a talented seamstress and often made clothing for her husband and children.

She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia McAlister (Gary) and Janet Patterson (Bobby); seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Chaplin Bryan Bellotte officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Her final resting place will be Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
