IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marvin Jackson "Jack"
Powell
January 11, 1932 – November 13, 2024
Marvin Jackson "Jack" Powell, 92, of Clinton, Iowa and Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the home of his daughter in Clinton.
He was a very devout Christian, he was a member of the Mauldin Assembly of God Church in Mauldin, SC. He was a Deacon and greeter at the church and always greeted everyone with a "Werther's Original" candy. His church family was a very important part of his life and he played a very inspirational part of everyone he knew, especially his loved ones. He had the sweetest love-filled eyes and when he looked at us children his eyes just sparkled. We always knew we were loved. But his love for our mother was unexplainable. He always said "she's my baby".
He was born on January 11, 1932, to parents Walter and Mellie (Lacy) Powell in Anderson, SC. He and his siblings were raised on a farm where being the oldest son, he was responsible for most of the work, plowing the fields with only a horse and drawn plow. He then joined the Army at age 19, where he became a paratrooper and also a cook. Needless to say, they were married and had three more children together, Richard, Jackie and Gregg Powell.
He then worked in the electrical field under his mentor Mr. Cooper and then as a project manager until he retired in 2004. After he lost our mother, he moved back to Clinton and lived with his daughter, Jackie until his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter, Loretta Pearson, son, Ricky Powell, grandson Richard Powell, great-grandson Dylan Slattery, seven siblings, nine nephews and a niece.
He is survived by his daughters, Sherry (Keith) Malone of Clinton, IA; Jackie (Chris) Stiles of Clinton; son Gregg (Judy) Powell of Petal, MS; grandchildren, Joshua, Kelley (Scott), Melanie, Troy, Kimberly (Daniel) Michael, Nick (Jenn), Christopher, Terra, Sara, Brent (Erin), Amanda (Dude), Gregory Jr. (Mallory) and Hailey (Tyler), 36 great-grandchildren; nine great great-grandchildren; and siblings, Barbara Giddeon of Pensacola, FL and Henry Powell of Anderson, SC.
He will be greatly missed and always loved by us all. "Thank you, daddy, for teaching us to be strong in our faith".
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Norman Black officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.
