Mary Vickery Baker, age 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, at her home. Born December 1, 1938, in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late Walter Owen Vickery and Sally Rebecca Freeman Vickery. She was married for 34 years to Bennie Sam Baker until his death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Vickery; sister, Glenda Westbrook; and great granddaughter, Chelsea Parsons. Mary worked for many years at BASF. She loved to travel and would do so in a variety of ways be it cruising or by bus. She loved her church, Oakwood Baptist Church, her church family and serving the Lord. She was an amazing wife and mother and a proud grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her son, Charles Samuel "Sammy" Baker; daughters, Melinda Joan Saggus, Tina Marie Baker, and Lisa Renee Villegas (Juan); brother, Charles Vickery; 12 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 9, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church, 304 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.
