BURGESSFEBRUARY 10, 1915 - NovemBER 10, 2008ANDERSON, SCMary Frances Minott Burgess, age 93, widow of Edwin Albert Burgess, died Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Spartanburg, SC, on February 10, 1915, Mrs. Burgess grew up in Charleston, SC and graduated from Memminger High School. She came to Anderson College (now University) as the recipient of a scholarship and majoring in Piano, studying with Ms. Grace Cronkite. She married Edwin A. Burgess, whose family had been farmers in Anderson County for generations back to 1740. They settled in Anderson in 1939.A lifelong supporter of music and music education, Mrs. Burgess maintained a large private piano studio from the late 1940's until the late 1970's. She was a member of the Anderson Piano Ensemble and the Anderson Music Club, serving as president during 1979-1980; she was active in the Anderson Community Concert Association (forerunner of GAMAC). In addition to being a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church, she served as choir director for decades, retiring in 1985.Also active in community affairs, Mrs. Burgess was a charter member of the Anderson Woman's Club and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.Mrs. Burgess was the daughter of Francis Sams Minott and Myrtle deLiesseline Minott of Charleston, SC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband E. A. Burgess, and two sisters, Lillian 'Diddy' M. Anderson and Myrtle M. Faison, and their respective spouses; and a son-in-law, Darryl MacFall of Binghamton, NY.She is survived by her sister, Barbara M. Seabrook of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Mary Minott Burgess MacFall of Binghamton, NY and Linda B. Wilson and husband, Col. J. K. Wilson, Jr., Ret'd, of Belton, SC; four grandchildren: Laura Madden Sarantopoulos and husband, Dr. Peter Sarantopoulos of Los Angeles, CA, Sydney Mullin and husband, Paul Mullin of Clifton Park, NY, Wendy W. Cawood and husband, Dr. Mark Cawood of Clemson, SC, and J. K. Wilson, III and wife Renee Wilson of Charlottesville, VA; seven great grandchildren, J. K. 'Jake' Wilson, IV, Reagan Wilson, Vincent Wilson, & Ryder Wilson, all of Charlottesville, VA, John Paul Cawood & Thomas Cawood, both of Clemson, SC, and Sean Liam Mullin of Clifton Park, NY.The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Friday, November 14, 2008, at Grace Episcopal Church conducted by The Reverend John B. Hardaway, IV. The committal service will follow in the Grace Episcopal Church Memorial Garden.
