Mary Virginia Ramsay Dobbins, age 89, formerly of 119 Brittania Circle, and widow of the late William Lee Dobbins, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the AnMed Health Medical Center. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.Born in Pickens, SC, on September 16, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Alexander Ramsay and Ursula Kennemur Ramsay. In 1940 and at the age of twenty, Mrs. Dobbins received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Winthrop College. She was a retired educator from the Anderson County School District Five, having taught nearly thirty years at the old Girls' High School and T.L. Hanna High School. Mrs. Dobbins was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church, where for many years she taught the Primary Class Sunday School.'NaNa' dedicated her life to service of others. She will be remembered for her steadfast love, independent spirit, generosity, inspiration, kindness to abandoned animals, and her applesauce pies. 'NaNa' was an avid Atlanta Braves fan whose loyalty never wavered.She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Her survivors include her children: Dr. Bill Dobbins of Townville, SC, Al Dobbins of Anderson, SC, and Jenny Swift of Anderson, SC; grandsons: Russell Swift and wife, Caty Swift, of Winston-Salem, NC, and Heyward Swift of Anderson, SC; brothers-in-law: Fred Dobbins and wife, Lib Dobbins, of Townville, SC and Jack Dobbins and wife, Elizabeth Dobbins, of Townville, SC; in addition are several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dobbins was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Swift; sisters: Martha Dueland, Helen Steele, Ollie McDaniel, Kitty Hawkins, Gertrude Bailey, and Margaret Alexander; and brothers: Alex Ramsay and Thomas Ramsay.The Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Friday, December 19th, at the Forest Lawn Mausoleum Chapel, conducted by the Reverend Jimmy McClure.The family is at the home of Jenny Swift, 214 Bowen Drive, Anderson, SC.A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.com.THE McDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
